BYD Tang EV to be launched in Europe
According to Bloomberg, BYD senior executive Stella Li stated that, driven by strong orders for its new seven-seat all-electric model in the Chinese market, BYD plans to launch the Tang EV in the European market as early as the end of this year.

In a recent interview at the FII Priority Europe summit in Rome, Li said the Tang EV model will enter the European and Asia-Pacific markets by the end of this year or early 2027.
This mid-priced model is set to become another core pillar of BYD’s European product lineup. BYD has already entered the European market with small all-electric and hybrid models, and the launch of this new vehicle will further intensify competitive pressure on established local automakers. Since its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, orders for the BYD Tang EV have exceeded 150,000 units, making it a blockbuster model in the Chinese market. BYD is now planning to introduce this product overseas.
Stella Li, BYD’s Vice President overseeing global business, explained: “In the early stages of pre-sales starting in April, we received 100,000 orders in just two weeks.”
In April this year, Chinese automakers collectively held a 15% share of the European pure electric passenger car market, accounting for nearly 10% of total new car sales, with BYD ranking among the leading export-oriented automakers. In contrast, European local automakers are facing fierce competition at home and continue to see their market share in China shrink.
The BYD Tang EV is priced at approximately $35,500 in the Chinese market, targeting the competitive segment dominated by brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Kia, and Volvo. Chery’s Jaecoo 7 SUV has achieved notable sales in the UK market and is dubbed the “Temu Range Rover” by the industry, though it is not an all-electric model.
Deutsche Bank analysis indicates that the BYD Tang EV’s blade battery and ultra-fast charging technology give it a clear advantage over competitors in its class in the Chinese market, with the institution forecasting monthly sales of 10,000 units for this model.
Li added that BYD is ramping up its investments in the European market. Production capacity for vehicles and components at the Hungarian plant is steadily increasing, while the company is evaluating a second production base in Europe, though the location has yet to be finalized. She revealed that BYD will also expand its European R&D team, focusing on autonomous driving technology and data development capabilities.
Commenting on the Chinese market, Li said that despite the overall weakening of the auto market, BYD’s own sales are still expected to maintain steady growth, driven by new technologies and high-end models. “Consumers are currently in a wait-and-see mood, and the future trend is still difficult to determine. Perhaps the market will see changes in the second quarter,” Li stated.
