700 HP Max: Toyota GR Builds a Dual-Engine ‘7-Cylinder’ Camry
Toyota’s high-performance sports brand Gazoo Racing has recently built a Camry with a combined output of 700 horsepower. While it’s common for Gazoo Racing to create high-horsepower Toyota race cars, this Camry is anything but ordinary. This Camry features a dual-engine, four-wheel-drive layout, with a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine mounted on the front axle, delivering a maximum output of 300 horsepower; and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine on the rear axle, producing a maximum output of 400 horsepower. As a result, this special Camry is equipped with seven cylinders, with a combined maximum output reaching 700 horsepower.

This “seven-cylinder” Camry is a custom model unveiled by Toyota and Gazoo Racing at the Japan Super Endurance 24-Hour Race, created to celebrate the official launch of the American-spec Camry in the Japanese market.

The 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine housed in the front engine bay of this car is also found in the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, and LBX Morizo RR, delivering a maximum output of 300 horsepower. Not content with building a conventional performance version of the Camry, Gazoo Racing engineers added a second engine in the trunk area. This 2.0-liter engine located in the trunk is a brand-new development by Gazoo Racing and has not yet been installed in any mass-produced civilian model, with a maximum output reaching 400 horsepower. It is reported that this new engine is expected to be used in future Toyota performance cars.

In addition to its unique powertrain, this Camry is also equipped with custom front and rear bumpers, wide-body kits, and a large fixed rear wing. There are currently no plans for mass production of this car; it is more of a showcase of the technological exploration achievements by Toyota and Gazoo Racing.
