New-generation Hyundai Elantra sedan with striking design shown live
The debut market for the fresh four-door Hyundai will be Korea, where sales will start in the third quarter. In the brand’s home country, the model will be offered with a two-liter naturally aspirated engine or as a “simple” hybrid.
The world premiere of the new, eighth-generation Hyundai sedan took place last week at the home auto show in Busan. Let us remind you that in the company’s home country the model is called Avante, while in other markets it is known as the Elantra. So now the manufacturer has posted a video of the new product’s presentation online, thanks to which you can examine the “live” cars in detail.
In the new generation, the four-door Hyundai Elantra/Avante received a cool exterior design – the appearance is styled in the same angular manner as the Hyundai Ioniq V, which is so far aimed only at China. The global sedan’s body features many facets, the Elantra also gained muscular sides, semi-concealed door handles, and additional windows behind the rear pillars.
The headlights were made two-tiered: at the top are LED horizontal strips and adjacent slanted diode sections, below are the main headlight blocks, with an additional “slot” between them. The rectangular radiator grille is built into the lower part of the bumper. The rear lights were also made in the form of LED strips. There is a “ducktail” on the trunk lid.
The length of the new-generation sedan aimed at Korea is 4765 mm, width – 1855 mm, height – 1425 mm, wheelbase – 2750 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the previous local model are: 4710/1825/1420 mm, with a wheelbase of 2720 mm.
In the interior of the new Elantra, instead of a single display, separate screens for the instrument cluster and multimedia system were installed, with the first display positioned almost flush against the windshield. The Pleos Connect multimedia system is based on artificial intelligence, like in the fresh flagship sedan Hyundai Grandeur. Its tablet, depending on the trim level, can have a diagonal of 12.9 or 14.6 inches. Transmission control is assigned to a steering column stalk. On the center tunnel there are two pads for wireless charging and uncovered cupholders.
The equipment list also includes: a remote parking system, ten airbags, surround-view cameras, navigation-based adaptive cruise control, automatic braking systems, lane keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring. There is also a Memory Reversing Assist (MRA) system, which “automatically controls the steering when reversing, memorizing the vehicle’s trajectory.”
In Korea, the “eighth” Hyundai Avante sedan will be offered with a new-for-this-country 2.0 naturally aspirated gasoline engine producing 149 hp, which replaces the naturally aspirated 1.6 (120 hp) unit. The two-liter engine works in conjunction with a CVT. On the domestic market, the “simple” HEV hybrid will also remain available, meaning without the ability to charge from the power grid. The hybrid version’s setup still includes a 1.6 engine. According to preliminary data, like the previous Avante Hybrid sedan, the new hybrid also has a six-speed robotized gearbox. It is also known that the total output of the electrified model’s system has increased from 141 to 157 hp.
In the home country, sales of the new-generation four-door will start in the third quarter. The timing of the world premiere of the fresh Hyundai Elantra has not yet been announced.
