New Jeep 2030 Flagship SUV
Recently, it became known that Stellantis intends to create several new global models by 2030, including a large Jeep SUV developed jointly with the Chinese company Dongfeng. Thanks to a single teaser, we have the opportunity to form a first impression of its exterior.
In the current lineup of the American brand, the flagship role is played by the body-on-frame Grand Wagoneer SUV, built on the basis of the Ram 1500 pickup. The premiere of the model’s only generation took place in 2021, and in the fall of last year, a facelifted version was introduced. Its future fate is still unknown: SUV sales leave much to be desired, and in the future, its place on the assembly line may be taken by a large Ram SUV.
The brand’s flagship is expected to be a large SUV on a platform developed jointly with the Chinese automaker Dongfeng. We have only one image of the model at our disposal, showing the front half of the body along with the side windows and roof. The headlights are designed as “two-tier”: narrow LED strips run along the edge of the hood (visually connected by the LED lighting of the upper part of the radiator grille), while the main headlight units are integrated slightly lower into the bumper. The wheel arches are angular, matching the overall body styling. The rear doors appear very wide, hinting at three-row seating and spaciousness in the rear of the cabin. Also noteworthy are the wide rear pillars, which evoke associations with other brand models, including the new-generation Cherokee and the recently updated Renegade. The rear part is still hidden, so we have depicted a version with a full-width LED taillight, similar to the current flagship Grand Wagoneer. The SUV is also shown with original six-spoke alloy wheels.
As previously mentioned, the base for the new model will be a platform co-developed with Dongfeng, and the powertrain will be a plug-in hybrid, similar to most full-size Chinese crossovers. The main emphasis will be on off-road capability and other signature features of the Jeep brand. The current Grand Wagoneer is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six engine, producing 426 hp and 635 Nm of torque. There is also a plug-in hybrid version of the REEV (range-extended electric vehicle) type, in which a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline V6, mechanically disconnected from the wheels, works in tandem with a 130-kilowatt generator and charges a traction battery with a capacity of 92 kWh. The wheels are driven by two electric motors with a combined power of 656 hp (841 Nm).
Meanwhile, last month, the off-road versions of the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland returned to production.
