GM Hanmaum Foundation Operates ‘Da(多)-Value Playground’ to Help Children with Migrant Backgrounds Adapt to Language and Culture

GM Hanmaum Foundation Korea (hereinafter referred to as “GM Hanmaum Foundation”) held an integrated support program “Da(多)Gachi Playground” experience program and a donation ceremony on the 25th at the Eoullim Ikkullim Education Center in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, to help children from migrant backgrounds adapt to the language and culture.

This program was designed to support children from migrant backgrounds in the Incheon area who face difficulties in school life and forming peer relationships due to language and cultural differences, as the number of such children continues to grow. It is significant as an integrated program that goes beyond simple language education, helping children develop language skills, cultural understanding, emotional stability, and social relationships through play and hands-on experiences.

GM Hanmaum Foundation, together with the Incheon Regional Headquarters of ChildFund Korea (Green Umbrella), will operate a total of 22 sessions of programs for children from migrant backgrounds, including play activities, cooking activities, language activities, and community activities. Through themed play sessions covering culture, history, and food, craft experiences, cooking activities to make Korean food, play-based language education, community exploration, and volunteer activities, the program supports children’s daily adaptation and social relationship building.

At the experience program held on the 25th, attendees included Hector Villarreal, CEO of GM Hanmaum Foundation and President of GM Korea Operations, GM executives and employees, Kim Jin, Head of the Incheon Regional Headquarters of ChildFund Korea, and officials from local partner organizations. At the event, the program was introduced, and a donation of 20 million KRW was delivered to the Incheon Regional Headquarters of ChildFund Korea, followed by a cooking class where 20 elementary school children from migrant backgrounds made cupcakes and sandwiches together.

Meanwhile, since its establishment in 2005, GM Hanmaum Foundation has continued its social contribution activities in areas such as education, environment, health, and safety in partnership with local communities. In particular, it has carried out programs to support the settlement of Afghan special contributors’ families and projects supporting women’s and multicultural organizations, promoting community integration and self-reliance. Through this program, the foundation plans to further expand support for children from migrant backgrounds.
