New Mitsubishi Pajero appears in fresh shots ahead of its premiere
Mitsubishi continues to fuel interest in the next-generation Pajero SUV. The presentation of the off-roader is scheduled for autumn.
The fact that the body-on-frame Pajero SUV would return to Mitsubishi’s lineup was officially announced at the end of May. Now the company has shown fresh teasers, including an image of the SUV’s instrument cluster. In addition, Mitsubishi has posted a video online showing the new Pajero being unveiled without camouflage to brand fans. For the record, the very first off-roader hit the market in 1982, while the “fourth” Mitsubishi Pajero stayed on the assembly line from 2006 to 2021 (in some countries it was known as the Montero or Shogun).
It is known that the new off-roader is a relative of the current Mitsubishi Triton/L200 pickup truck. At the same time, the suspension was specifically recalibrated for the Pajero. Among the exterior features of the passenger SUV are vertically stacked LED sections for the daytime running lights, plus the headlights are connected by a fairly wide illuminated strip.
The instrument cluster, apparently, is virtual, and the company calls it a “multimeter.” Mitsubishi noted that the instrument panel includes an altimeter (an instrument for measuring altitude) and a compass, and it is also capable of displaying in real time the vehicle’s tilt and roll angles and torque distribution.
In addition, Mitsubishi has gathered the first comments from potential owners who were allowed not only to look at the new Pajero but also to sit inside it. In particular, they noted the spacious cabin, comfortable seats, and an overall “sense of luxury.” Yes, the SUV will become the brand’s new flagship.
As for the technical details of the new Mitsubishi Pajero, there is still no word yet. The engine lineup of the Mitsubishi Triton pickup, depending on the market, includes a bi-turbo diesel 2.4 with 204 hp, a less powerful turbodiesel (150 hp or 184 hp), as well as a petrol engine 2.4 (128 hp). The truck is available with a manual or automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive (top versions feature the Super Select 4WD-II transmission with an asymmetric center self-locking differential). Although it is not ruled out that the new Pajero still got a hybrid powertrain.
The premiere of the body-on-frame Mitsubishi Pajero will take place in autumn. Like the pickup, the SUV will be produced in Thailand. And later, at least two more models with the Pajero name will appear — apparently, with their own “surnames.” These vehicles were previously shown in the company’s presentation.
