New Hyundai Ioniq 3: now also the standard version
Hyundai is preparing to bring the Ioniq 3 electric hatchback to market. Its primary habitat will be Europe, where the model will be available with front-wheel drive and two battery options.
The world premiere of the electric hatchback Hyundai Ioniq 3, aimed primarily at the Old World, took place back in April. But at that time, the brand only showcased the “sporty” N Line version. Now, Hyundai’s European division has published official photos of the standard five-door. Let us also recall that the Ioniq 3 is the production embodiment of last year’s Hyundai Concept Three concept.
Externally, the regular electric hatchback differs from the N Line version with more subdued bumpers. In addition, the “plain” Ioniq 3 has a smooth body-colored panel at the front, while the “sport” version features a black insert. The spoiler on the tailgate has been retained, but it is more modest than on the Ioniq 3 N Line. The standard hatchback is available with 16-, 17-, or 18-inch wheels. The “sport” versions come with 19-inch wheels.
Inside, there are gray plastics and seat upholstery instead of the black ones in the N Line. Regardless of the trim, the interior features separate screens for the instrument cluster and multimedia system, with the former, a narrow display, positioned almost flush against the windshield. Incidentally, the interiors of the latest Hyundai Grandeur and Hyundai Elantra sedans are styled in a similar manner. The multimedia system is of a new generation — it is Pleos Connect with an AI-based assistant. The central tablet in the Ioniq 3 can have a diagonal of 12.9 or 14.6 inches.
The hatchback is based on the modular E-GMP platform, familiar from other Hyundai-Kia electric vehicles. The five-door has a 400-volt electrical architecture. The length of the standard Hyundai Ioniq 3 is 4155 mm, compared to 4170 mm for the N Line version. The other dimensions are identical. Width is 1800 mm, height is 1505 mm, and wheelbase is 2680 mm.
For Europeans, the Hyundai Ioniq 3 will be available with an electric motor mounted on the front axle producing 135 or 147 hp. The maximum torque in both cases is 250 Nm. The hatchback is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 42.2 or 61 kWh. The projected driving range is 344 or 496 km on the WLTP cycle.
Production of the Hyundai Ioniq 3 for Europe will be set up in Turkey. The electric hatchback will go on sale before the end of the year; prices have not yet been announced.
