Toyota refreshed the Crown crossover sedan: a different rear end and a revised hybrid system.
The Japanese company has announced a list of changes and disclosed the price of the refreshed four-door sedan intended for the American market.
The Toyota Crown is by no means a young model — its history spans more than 70 years and sixteen generations. As a reminder, the current generation debuted in the summer of 2022, with the well-known name assigned to an entire family of vehicles. As a result, the current lineup includes: a regular sedan, its crossover version with the Crossover suffix (without a “surname” in the US), a crossover SUV with the Sport suffix, and an SUV with the Estate suffix (with the “surname” Signia in the States).
Now the American office has announced the updates that have been applied to the Toyota Crown crossover sedan for the 2027 model year. It is known that the XLE, Limited, and Nightshade trims have received a modernized fifth-generation hybrid system — THS 5. The company did not disclose whether the system’s characteristics have changed, only noting improved efficiency. It is still based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine working in tandem with two electric motors mounted on the front and rear axles.
The listed trims come with an electronic all-wheel drive system that uses a separate electric motor located on the rear axle when needed: additional traction on the rear wheels helps improve road grip and maneuverability in corners. It is known that the refreshed XLE, Limited, and Nightshade variants come with paddle shifters.
The top-tier Toyota Crown Platinum trim retains the previous Hybrid Max system, which includes a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors. The combined output of this system is 345 hp, with a maximum torque of 542 Nm. This modification comes with an electronic all-wheel drive system that constantly regulates torque distribution between the front and rear axles.
Recently, the Japanese company showcased the slightly revised exterior of the updated Toyota Crown Crossover intended for the domestic market. In the same vein, the crossover sedan version for the States has been refreshed. The list of exterior adjustments includes a redesigned rear bumper: on two-tone models, the trunk lid and rear bumper (excluding the lower section) are painted in the main body color, with only the “mono-light bar” highlighted in black gloss.
The Toyota Crown Platinum trim also receives red brake calipers. There are no changes in the interior; as before, the dashboard features a 12.3-inch virtual instrument cluster, as well as a same-sized touchscreen for the infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
Interestingly, the prices of the 2027 model year crossover sedan have risen disproportionately. The cost of the XLE, Nightshade, and Premium trims increased by only $200 — to $41,640 (equivalent to approximately 3.26 million rubles at the current exchange rate), $48,965 (about 3.83 million rubles), and $55,190 respectively (about 4.32 million rubles). Meanwhile, the price of the Toyota Crown Limited jumped by as much as $3,770 to $49,720 (about 3.89 million rubles).
