New-generation GAC GS4 crossover offered with immediate discounts

GAC has launched sales of the new GS4 crossover in its home market. The model is not a fully original development – the Aion i60 was used as the base.
The Trumpchi GS4 crossover (the Trumpchi brand is used only in China), announced as the new, fifth generation, was unveiled by the GAC concern in its home market in June. Now they have revealed trim levels and prices and started sales.

Let us recall that the first-generation model debuted in 2015, and the “second” crossover was presented in 2019. But the other crossovers with the GS4 index are variants of other GAC vehicles. The larger Trumpchi GS5 was positioned as the “third” crossover – it was demoted to GS4 with the Plus suffix in 2021. In 2024, the GAC Trumpchi Emkoo turned into the “fourth” SUV with the “Max” surname. And it was the Max that reached Russia last year, but already simply as the GAC GS4.

The “fifth” crossover is also not an original development. The Aion i60 (Aion is another GAC sub-brand) was used as the base for this Trumpchi GS4. The latter model, in turn, is related to the Aion V (this SUV is also available in Russia) and the Toyota bZ3X.

The new GS4 inherited the body, optics, and semi-concealed door handles from the Aion i60. The front bumper of the “fifth” crossover is original. In addition, the radiator grille is in its usual place, whereas the donor crossover has a smooth “nose.”

The length of the new Trumpchi GS4 is 4680 mm, width – 1860 mm, height depending on the version – 1660 or 1675 mm, wheelbase – 2770 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the Aion i60 are: 4685/1854/1660 mm, wheelbase – 2775 mm. The dimensions of the GAC Trumpchi GS4 Max, that is, the previous-generation crossover: 4685/1901/1690 mm, wheelbase – 2750 mm. The cheapest new crossover has 17-inch wheels, while the other trim levels have 18-inch ones.

Inside, the GS4 also largely replicates the Aion i60. The cabin features separate screens for the instrument cluster (8.88 inches) and the multimedia system (15.6 inches), a two-spoke steering wheel, and a two-tier central tunnel. The multimedia system is based on artificial intelligence. A steering-column stalk is responsible for transmission control.

The donor Aion i60 comes as a hybrid or an electric vehicle. But the new GAC Trumpchi GS4 is offered exclusively in a “traditional” version with technology from its local predecessor. This is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 177 hp, a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches, and front-wheel drive only (in Russia, the current model has an all-wheel-drive version with a 2.0 turbo engine).

Chinese buyers are currently offered the new GS4 in three trim levels. The base version includes the aforementioned displays, climate control, rear-view camera, and cruise control. The “mid-range” version adds surround-view cameras. The top-end Trumpchi GS4 features a panoramic roof, wireless smartphone charging, heated and ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, and automatic braking and lane-keeping systems.
The new-generation GAC Trumpchi GS4 crossover is priced at 87,800 – 100,800 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1.01 million – 1.17 million rubles at the current exchange rate. At the same time, first buyers are eligible for discounts, with which the model will cost 79,800 – 90,800 yuan (924,000 – 1.05 million rubles). GAC has not yet announced when the export GS4 will transition to the new generation.
