Budget crossover Suzuki Brezza gets new tech after facelift
Suzuki has unveiled the updated compact crossover Brezza. The model received a refreshed exterior and improved equipment. The engine lineup was expanded with a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder. Finally, the five-door got a new manual transmission.
This affordable Suzuki crossover has been in service since 2016, created specifically for India, where its production is based – Maruti Suzuki (a “daughter” of the Japanese company) is responsible for manufacturing. The crossover debuted under the dual name Vitara Brezza, but in 2022, after transitioning to the second generation, the model became simply Brezza. Incidentally, for a while the crossover ceased to be an Indian exclusive – it was also supplied to South Africa. However, export deliveries later ceased. In India, Brezza initially topped the list of the country’s most sought-after SUVs. But then interest in the crossover began to decline. Last year it ended in the “red”: according to local media, sales fell by 7% to 175,310 units. The facelift is intended to boost demand.
The crossover’s front end was redesigned. The Suzuki Brezza received a new bumper, and the new fog lights are now positioned higher than on the pre-facelift model. The radiator grille features a different decorative insert. New wheel designs also appeared (still 16-inch). Additionally, three design packages are available – for example, the Turbo set with red accents.
Dimensions remain unchanged. The Suzuki Brezza is 3995 mm long (in India, cars under four meters in length qualify for significant tax benefits), 1790 mm wide, 1685 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2500 mm.
Inside, a different climate control unit was installed and trim materials were refreshed. As before, “basic” trims come with a 7-inch multimedia tablet (the base crossover has no multimedia at all). However, the top-spec Suzuki Brezza received a 10.1-inch screen (previously 9-inch). The richest trim now also includes ventilated front seats, new ambient lighting (64 colors), lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert systems, and an improved surround-view camera system. As before, the top crossover also has a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, a head-up display, and cruise control.
The main technical update is a 1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder gasoline engine producing 110 hp (the aforementioned Turbo package with red accents is specifically intended for the turbo version). The Suzuki Brezza also retains the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (103 hp) and its bi-fuel CNG version (88 hp on methane). At the same time, the five-speed manual has been replaced by a six-speed manual gearbox. Only the 6MT is available with the 1.0T and Brezza CNG, while the pure gasoline crossover with the 1.5 also comes with a classic six-speed automatic. Finally, in the bi-fuel crossover, the gas cylinder is now located not in the trunk but under its floor. Drive is exclusively front-wheel in all cases.
The updated Suzuki Brezza crossover will cost at least 739,900 rupees, which is equivalent to approximately 601,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
