New-generation Hongqi H7 sedan ready for sales launch, available with all-wheel drive

The new four-door Hongqi model is expected to hit the domestic market in August. The model is a plug-in hybrid.

The return of the H7 sedan to the lineup of the premium brand Hongqi, owned by the FAW concern, was officially announced in April: the next-generation model, the second in its history, was shown at the Beijing Auto Show. In May, a certificate for the new model appeared in the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. And recently, “blind” orders were opened in the brand’s home market, meaning without publishing all specifications and prices. Now local industry media have determined the date of another presentation – August 13. At that time, trim levels and prices are likely to be announced as well. Meanwhile, the brand itself has posted several videos online revealing new details about the model.

Let us also recall that the previous sedan was built on the basis of the old Toyota Crown, and that “Seven” remained on the assembly line from 2013 to 2021. By the way, the previous Hongqi H7 was the brand’s first market model – before that, the Hongqi brand produced cars only for the Chinese leadership. So the new four-door is a completely independent development of the brand.

The “second” Hongqi H7 features the brand’s signature two-tier headlights, semi-concealed door handles, and rear lights in the style of the Hongqi HS6 crossover. The sedan also received a frameless radiator grille in body color, whose vertical “slits” have a chrome finish. The sedan is offered with 19-inch wheels.

The new Hongqi H7 is 5060 mm long, 1910 mm wide, 1480 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. The trunk volume is 500 liters.

Inside – a minimalist front panel, a three-spoke steering wheel, a narrow instrument screen and, on the contrary, a large multimedia system display (15.6 inches). In the upper part of the central tunnel there is a wireless charging pad and uncovered cup holders, and a retractable box with heating and cooling functions is built into its end.

The equipment list also includes a glass roof, heated, ventilated and massaging seats, and a Bose audio system with 18 speakers (likely including speakers in the driver’s seat headrest). And of course, the model’s arsenal certainly includes a modern suite of driver assistance systems, although the lidar above the windshield remains the prerogative of the flagship Hongqi H9 sedan.

The new Hongqi H7 is a plug-in hybrid. The powertrain includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (150 hp). Simpler versions will be offered with front-wheel drive. More expensive variants have a separate electric motor on the rear axle, meaning such sedans have all-wheel drive. Information on the power of the electric motors is still unavailable. However, Chinese media report that the front-wheel-drive H7 is equipped with a battery with a capacity of 23.9 kWh, while the all-wheel-drive version gets a 30.3 kWh battery.
