Geely EX5 crossover with new technology is preparing to enter the Russian market

The Chinese brand intends to release a version on the Russian market with the EM-R suffix added to the name, which is equipped with a series hybrid system of the range extended type.
On the domestic market, the fully electric crossover Geely appeared in July 2024, where it is sold under the name Galaxy E5. In Russia, the model was decided to be offered under the export name – Geely EX5, which reached dealers in March 2025. In November of the same year, the family was expanded with the Geely EX5 EM-i variant, which is equipped with a parallel-series hybrid system. It is worth noting that this modification has a twin produced under the Belarusian brand Belgee – the X80 PHEV.

Now the local Geely office intends to expand the family with another version of the crossover – the EX5 EM-R. This variant is equipped with a series hybrid REEV (Range Extended Electric Vehicle) system. It includes a 99-horsepower naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine, which has no mechanical connection to the wheels and serves to drive a generator to recharge the traction lithium iron phosphate battery.

The battery capacity has not yet been disclosed by the company; it is known that it can be charged from a household AC power supply, as well as from DC charging stations, in the latter case charging from 30% to 80% will take only 20 minutes. The internal combustion engine works in tandem with the E-DHT transmission and an electric motor producing 218 hp (maximum torque – 262 Nm). Such a crossover takes 8.1 seconds to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h. The driving range will likely be announced later.

The Geely EX5 EM-R is based on the modular GEA (Global Electric Architecture) platform. The aerodynamic drag coefficient Cx of the model is 0.288: the crossover features specially designed alloy wheels, a streamlined body, a front bumper with low aerodynamic drag, and a flat underbody without protruding elements.

The interior of the announced new model can be finished in two color options – either dark blue or light brown eco-leather. In front of the driver is a two-spoke steering wheel with a flattened rim, and behind it is a virtual instrument cluster with a 10.2-inch diagonal. The front panel also features a touchscreen for the infotainment system, with a 15.4-inch diagonal. The crossover also comes with a Flyme Sound audio system with 16 speakers and a subwoofer.

The trunk volume of the Geely EX5 EM-R is 528 liters, and with the rear seats folded down, the cargo space can be increased to 2,065 liters. Additionally, roof rails are provided – the maximum permissible load is 50 kg, and the cabin has various storage compartments for small items.
The Geely EX5 EM-R is equipped with active safety systems and an ADAS driver assistance suite, which includes a forward collision avoidance system, intelligent cruise control, blind spot monitoring, etc. Information about the trim levels and pricing of the new hybrid version in Russia will be announced later.
