New Hyundai Tucson 2027
Last week, fresh spy photos of the new Korean crossover were published online, giving us a reason to imagine what the new model will look like.
The compact crossover Tucson, named after the American city of Tucson (Arizona), was first introduced in 2004, sharing a platform with the Elantra and Kia Sportage. Today, the fourth generation of the SUV is on the assembly line, with its premiere taking place in the fall of 2020, and a facelifted version was unveiled three years later.
In the fifth generation, the model will receive a completely different appearance, as evidenced by photos of test prototypes. The body will become more angular and will largely resemble the larger Santa Fe SUV: it features nearly identical glazing at the front with “hidden” pillars, similar wheel arch styling with trapezoidal stampings, and almost flat side panels. However, the front end will be entirely original, thanks to headlights located in the bumper and vertical LED daytime running light strips. Most likely, a horizontal strip of running lights will also be placed between them. The taillights will adopt a similar style: slightly tilted fragments of the rear optics are visible through the camouflage, while the trunk lid may be designed in the style of the new Elantra/Avante sedan. The license plate will be mounted on the rear bumper, and the crossover is also shown with one of the new wheel rim options.
As for the technical side, we can expect the introduction of new or upgraded hybrid powertrains, including plug-in hybrids. The current Tucson in its hybrid version is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and an electric motor with a combined output of 265 hp (350 Nm). In the next generation, the lineup will be expanded with the top-tier N modification, featuring a similar powertrain based on a new engine of the same displacement, with a combined output potentially exceeding 300 hp.
The premiere of the new Hyundai Tucson is expected within this year. Meanwhile, the next-generation Hyundai i20 hatchback made its debut a month ago.
