Multiple Powertrain Options Available, All-New BMW X5 to Debut Globally on June 30
According to recent information released by foreign media, the all-new BMW X5 (codenamed G65) is expected to make its global debut on June 30. As one of BMW’s best-selling models worldwide, the BMW X5 (parameters | inquiry) has gone through four generations, with cumulative sales of the four generations exceeding 3.1 million units. The all-new BMW X5 is the fifth generation of the model family and will offer gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric versions. A hydrogen fuel cell version is expected to be launched in 2028. Production of the new car is expected to begin in August 2026, with initial production models offering a variety of powertrain configurations. Among them, the X5 40 xDrive and X5 40d xDrive are fuel versions; the X5 50e xDrive and M60e xDrive are plug-in hybrid versions; the iX5 60 xDrive is an all-electric version. Other derivative models will be launched successively in 2027.

According to previously released information, the all-new BMW X5 40 xDrive will be equipped with a mild hybrid system consisting of an upgraded B58 3.0T inline-six turbocharged engine and an ISG motor. It delivers a maximum power of 399 horsepower and a peak torque of 540 Nm, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel-drive system. The 0-100 km/h acceleration time is 5.3 seconds.

The all-new BMW X5 50e xDrive will also retain the combination of a 3.0T engine and an electric motor. The engine’s maximum power is increased to 312 horsepower, and the motor’s maximum power is increased to 197 horsepower. It is paired with an 18.7 kWh battery, providing approximately 96.6 km of pure electric range, with a top speed of 140 km/h in pure electric mode.

The all-new BMW iX5 will still be produced on the CLAR architecture and equipped with 800V technology. Its powertrain will feature a front and rear dual-motor four-wheel-drive system. The front motor delivers a maximum power of 248 horsepower and a peak torque of 305 Nm, while the rear motor delivers a maximum power of 330 horsepower and a peak torque of 500 Nm. It will be equipped with a 141 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of over 500 km, with a curb weight under 3 tons.

The all-new BMW X5 will feature a four-spoke steering wheel, a panoramic vision bridge, and a horizon panoramic display system, consistent with the all-new iX3. The all-new X5 is the first production model in BMW’s history to use a single chassis compatible with five different powertrains. The gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, all-electric, and hydrogen power versions all adopt the same body structure and suspension hardpoint positions. According to previous information, the domestically produced long-wheelbase version (codenamed G78) will be released in the fourth quarter of 2026, with official delivery expected to begin in the first quarter of 2027.
