Affordable in Russia, Jetour T1 Gets a Different Name and Design. Several More New SUVs Are on the Way

The Jetour brand has unveiled a rugged crossover named Freedom 7 Plus in its home market. In essence, this is a renamed and modernized version of the “plain” Freedom, which is known as the T1 in other markets, including Russia. At the same time, the company announced several other new products.

Jetour, a brand owned by Chery, held a special event in China during which it showcased several new products at once. The main premieres are the pure gasoline crossover Jetour Freedom 7 Plus, an electric crossover under the working name Jetour Tourer, and the hybrid flagship Jetour Traveler 8. The electrified SUVs are still prototypes. But the Freedom 7 Plus is already a production vehicle, with sales launch announced right at the presentation, so let’s start with it.

Although Jetour considers the Freedom 7 Plus a separate new model, in reality it is a modernized “plain” Jetour Freedom with two “prefixes” added. The original crossover has been present in China since 2025, and in the same year it appeared on export markets, including Russia. However, outside the PRC, the pre-facelift crossover is called the Jetour T1. That said, the “one” itself is also available in its home market, but exclusively with a hybrid powertrain: there, such a crossover belongs to the Shanhai family.

Be that as it may, the Jetour Freedom 7 Plus has its own radiator grille – with vertical slats. The bumpers have also become different. At the rear, there is additionally a “backpack.” The length of the Jetour Freedom 7 Plus is 4796 mm versus 4706 mm for the local gasoline “plain” Freedom. The wheelbase remains the same at 2810 mm.

Inside, the Freedom 7 Plus features a different steering wheel; otherwise, the interior is the same as that of the original crossover. The new modification is available in two trim levels. The standard equipment list includes: 19-inch wheels, LED lighting, a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster, a multimedia system with a 15.6-inch tablet, wireless charging, surround-view cameras, and adaptive cruise control. The more expensive version also adds heated and ventilated front seats.

The Jetour Freedom 7 Plus crossover is available only with the top gasoline turbo engine 2.0 (254 hp), a classic eight-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive. The original Freedom with the 2.0T in China also comes with front-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch robotic gearbox; additionally, such a crossover can be purchased there with the smaller turbo engine 1.5 (184 hp), a robot, and front-wheel drive.

Excluding promotions, the Jetour Freedom 7 Plus with the new design will cost 144,900 – 159,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 1.66 million – 1.83 million rubles at the current exchange rate.

As for the Jetour Tourer and Traveler 8 concepts, they have already been exhibited before – albeit under different names. These crossovers were shown in April at the Beijing Auto Show: the electric car then carried the index TX, and the hybrid flagship was designated as T8. There is still little information about them.

About the Jetour electric crossover, it is so far known that its length is approximately 4400 mm, and the wheelbase is “over 2700 mm.” This crossover has all-wheel drive, with a promised range of over 500 km.

The Jetour Traveler 8 is also all-wheel drive, and artificial intelligence is additionally claimed for it. On electric power alone, this crossover will cover 300 km, with a total range of over 1300 km.

It is expected that Jetour’s electrified crossovers will go into production next year.
