BYD Seal 08 flagship sedan offered with multiple powertrain options, including all-wheel drive

BYD has launched sales of a new large four-door sedan. As usual, the model is available with hybrid or fully electric powertrains. The newcomer boasts rich equipment and attractive prices.
As a concept called Ocean-S, the new BYD sedan was shown back in 2025. The production version was first presented in March of this year – the production four-door received the name BYD Seal 08. Now a full presentation has been held in China, prices have been announced, and sales have begun. The “Eight” has become the new flagship passenger car of the BYD Ocean family.

The BYD Seal 08 features two-tier headlights: “wave-shaped” daytime running lights are located on top, with the main headlight units below them. The lower part of the front bumper has active shutters. The newcomer also gets flush door handles and rear lights styled as a “wave-shaped” panel. The roof has two glass sections.

The BYD Seal 08 is 5150 mm long, 1999 mm wide, 1505 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3030 mm. The four-door rides on 19-inch wheels. The sedan is offered as a plug-in hybrid or an electric car. The trunk volume of the first version is 533 liters, while the second has 508 liters. Under the hood of the “electric” version, there is an additional compartment of 160 liters.

The interior features separate screens for the instrument cluster (12.3 inches) and the multimedia system (15.6 inches), and a wireless smartphone charging pad is located in the upper part of the two-tier center tunnel. All of the above comes as standard. The standard equipment list also includes ventilation and heating for all seats, massage function for the front seats, three-zone climate control, and BYD’s God’s Eye autopilot (lidar, multiple cameras, and radars).

Top trims also include a box hidden in the tunnel with heating and cooling functions, a head-up display, rear seats with massage and footrests, wireless charging built into the folding center armrest of the rear bench, and a touchscreen remote control.

All versions of the BYD Seal 08 have rear-wheel steering. All variants except the base one also feature adaptive air suspension.

The hybrid is offered in three trims, two of which are front-wheel drive, and the most expensive one is all-wheel drive. The DM-i powertrain of this BYD Seal 08 includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (156 hp) and a 272-hp electric motor. The all-wheel-drive hybrid has an additional electric motor on the rear axle with the same 272 hp. There is only one battery option – 45.36 kWh. On electric power alone, the hybrid Seal 08 will cover 400 or 350 km on the CLTC cycle (front/all-wheel drive). The front-wheel-drive BYD Seal 08 DM-i accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds, while the all-wheel-drive version does it in 3.8 seconds.

The electric car has an 800-volt architecture. The BYD Seal 08 EV is also offered in three trims, but the base versions are rear-wheel drive. The cheapest “green” sedan is equipped with a 347-hp electric motor and a 76.7 kWh battery, with a range of 775 km, and it will reach 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. The “middle” variant has a 435-hp motor on the rear axle, this sedan comes with a 92 kWh battery, a range of 905 km, and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. The two motors of the top-of-the-line Seal 08 EV together produce 694 hp; this four-door has a 92 kWh battery, a range of 785 km, and will reach 100 km/h in 3.3 seconds.

The hybrid BYD Seal 08 DM-i is priced at 196,900 – 229,900 yuan, which is equivalent to approximately 2.26 million – 2.64 million rubles at the current exchange rate. The base electric sedan BYD Seal 08 EV will cost the same 196,900 yuan, while the top all-wheel-drive version costs 239,900 yuan (2.75 million rubles).
Meanwhile, earlier BYD brought the large crossover Datang (also known as Great Tang) to the domestic market. If the fresh four-door is the flagship of the Ocean family, the crossover heads the Dynasty family.
