Large MG 07 liftback debuts in two power variants

At the moment, the new five-door MG model is only available as an electric car. Later, the lineup is expected to be supplemented by a plug-in hybrid.
The first full official images of the MG 07 liftback were published in May. In the same month, a certificate for the new model was entered into the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, thanks to which we learned that the five-door would be offered with hybrid or electric powertrains. Now, a presentation of the model has been held in China, the trim levels have been revealed, and preliminary prices have been announced, with local dealers starting to take orders. However, the MG 07 is currently available only as an electric car; the hybrid will hit the market later. Let us also recall that in the brand’s current lineup (now owned by SAIC), this is already the second liftback with a “seven” in its name. Since 2023, a purely gasoline-powered MG 7 model has been produced in China.

The new liftback is 4886 mm long, 1900 mm wide, 1478 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2825 mm. Thus, the MG 07 is only 2 mm longer than the “hydrocarbon” model, but the latter is noticeably inferior to the new model in terms of wheelbase (2778 mm). The trunk volume of the new liftback is 697 liters (including the underfloor compartment) versus 375 liters for the old “seven.” Under the hood of the electric version, there is an additional compartment of 168 liters.

The MG 07 features striking looks. The liftback has C-shaped headlights, frameless doors with semi-hidden handles, a glass roof, and a full-width light bar. There are active shutters in the lower part of the front bumper. All versions except the base one also have an autopilot from Momenta with a lidar above the windshield and a deployable spoiler on the tailgate. 18- or 19-inch wheels are available.

Inside, there are separate screens for the instrument cluster (8.88 inches) and the multimedia system (15.6 inches). The standard equipment list of the MG 07 also includes: heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats, ambient lighting (256 colors), wireless smartphone charging, and dual-zone climate control. Options include a pull-out table with a mirror for the front passenger, heated, ventilated, and massaging rear seats, and a refrigerator built into the trunk.

In total, the electric MG 07 has five trim levels. Three of them feature a 400-volt architecture, a 239-horsepower electric motor on the front axle, and a 67 kWh battery. The cheapest liftback, the one without lidar, is also the longest-range – it will cover 650 km on the CLTC cycle. The range of cars with autopilot is 610 km. Regardless of the trim level, the 239-horsepower MG 07 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The near-top and most luxurious five-doors feature an 800-volt architecture, a 320-horsepower electric motor (also at the front), and a 91 kWh battery from CATL. The range is 845 km. These versions will reach 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds.

The new MG 07 liftback with the 239-horsepower motor is preliminarily priced at 125,900 – 145,900 yuan (about 1.5 million – 1.7 million rubles at the current exchange rate), while the 320-horsepower five-door will cost 158,900 – 168,900 yuan (1.86 million – 1.98 million rubles). After the launch of “live” sales, actual prices are likely to be lower.
