On June 8, Lu Tian, General Manager of BYD’s Dynasty Network, unveiled the official images of its new flagship D-class sedan, the BYD Dahan, on social media. This new sedan, with the internal codename “9 Series,” is the first flagship model from the Dynasty series to target the D-class luxury market.
From its official announcement in January to its debut in June, the Dahan’s rollout has been tightly paced and clear. This time, the Dynasty Network is not just introducing another new car, but making a critical move for BYD in the mainstream luxury sedan market.
Why Launch the Dahan
BYD needs a flagship sedan. This need is not a sudden whim of the product department, but an inevitable choice at the current stage of the brand’s development.
Looking at the sales structure, BYD’s Dynasty Network and Ocean Network sold a combined total of 330,215 vehicles in May 2026, firmly occupying the 100,000 to 200,000 RMB new energy vehicle market with主力 models like the Qin, Song, and Yuan.
However, above the 300,000 RMB price point, consumer recognition of BYD remains relatively limited. The Denza brand sold 16,303 vehicles in May 2026, still some distance from fully establishing itself in the high-end market. In the 300,000 to 400,000 RMB luxury sedan market, BYD has long lacked a core product capable of directly competing.
In 2026, BYD launched 9 new models to target the high-end market, with a clear strategic shift from “selling more” to “selling at higher prices.” The Dahan, together with the full-size SUV “Datang,” forms the “Dynasty 9 Series” flagship lineup, tasked with filling the gap for new energy sedans priced above 300,000 RMB.

Another frequently mentioned context is the gap in the external market. Audi has officially confirmed that the successor to the current A8L will not be available until at least 2029. This means that between 2026 and 2029, Audi’s D-class executive sedans in China will face a complete hiatus.
While traditional luxury fuel-powered D-class cars are collectively contracting, most domestic flagship new energy sedans on the market lean towards sporty tuning, lacking a正统 executive-oriented D-class product. The Dahan, with its executive proportions of over 5.3 meters in length and a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters, precisely targets and fills this market gap.
Therefore, the Dahan’s value lies in two key points: internally, it fills the product gap for a flagship sedan in the Dynasty Network, forming a high-end dual-flagship matrix with the Datang; externally, it seizes the market window created by the contraction of traditional luxury brands and the absence of new energy D-class executive sedans.
This determines that its mission is not to chase volume, but to establish a position – to redefine BYD’s presence in the luxury sedan market.
What is the BYD Dahan Like?
In terms of exterior design, the Dahan adopts the new generation “Dragon Face” family design language. The front fascia continues with a low stance, featuring narrow headlights connected by a贯穿式 trim strip, and elongated side air intakes, giving it a沉稳 yet dynamic appearance.
The side profile features a fastback shape with a waistline design, complemented by flush door handles and black sporty wheels. The rear adopts a simple, wide-body style, with taillights expected to be a贯穿式 design.
Additionally, it offers a two-tone paint option and large brake calipers in the same color as the body. The overall vehicle length is expected to be close to 5.3 meters, with a wheelbase exceeding 3.1 meters, directly competing in size with the Audi A8L long-wheelbase version and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

In terms of powertrain, the Dahan offers both plug-in hybrid and pure electric versions, equipped with the second-generation Blade Battery and flash charging technology. The pure electric version comes in two configurations: an 800km range AWD LiDAR flagship model, and a 1008km range RWD LiDAR尊享 model.
Regarding specific pricing, considering the pre-sale price range of the Datang (250,000 to 320,000 RMB), the Dahan will likely fall into the 300,000 RMB range, directly competing with models like the NIO ET7, Stelato S9, and traditional luxury brands like BBA.
For intelligent assisted driving, official information indicates that the Dahan is expected to be equipped with the “God’s Eye B” assisted driving LiDAR version and the “God’s Eye 5.0” system. This system is based on an end-to-end large model using reinforcement learning, aiming to make the assisted driving experience more akin to human driving logic. The LiDAR mounted on the roof provides core hardware support for advanced assisted driving.
In terms of chassis and features, the Dahan will be equipped with the Yunian intelligent body control system and rear-wheel steering. The inclusion of Yunian means the chassis can actively adjust suspension stiffness and body posture, while rear-wheel steering improves the maneuverability of the D-class long-wheelbase sedan in urban conditions.
These technologies were previously mostly seen in high-end models from Yangwang and Denza. Their deployment in the Dynasty series now confirms the Dahan’s “fully loaded” product positioning.
Naming Background. The name “Dahan” was not directly decided by the company, but came from a previously launched naming campaign. Among the six finalists – “Dahan,” “Han 9,” “Han Ultra,” “Han Tianxia,” “Xiaohan,” and “Han Chitu” – “Dahan” received the most votes and was ultimately chosen.
This process reflects BYD’s intention to increase brand affinity through user participation when launching high-end products. Meanwhile, the core IP “Han,” after years of沉淀, already has a certain level of recognition.
Overall, the Dahan presents a fairly comprehensive technological reserve in its core parameters: a range exceeding 1,000 kilometers, full-stack advanced intelligent driving, the Yunian intelligent chassis, and dual powertrain options.
Whether these features will be sufficiently attractive in the 300,000 RMB market ultimately depends on the actual craftsmanship quality and overall driving experience of the production vehicle. But one thing is clear: the arrival of the Dahan marks the official entry of BYD’s Dynasty series into the competitive arena of D-class luxury sedans.
