Acura prepares a precursor to the new hybrid crossover RDX
So far, the Japanese brand has only shown a single teaser of the announced concept, with its premiere set for next week.
The Acura RDX crossover, primarily intended for the American market, first appeared in 2006, the second generation debuted in 2013, and the current third-generation crossover debuted in 2018. The model has also undergone a couple of updates – in the fall of 2021 and in the summer of 2024. Earlier, the company announced that production of the current SUV at the East Liberty Auto plant in Ohio would be completed during 2026. However, the next RDX is just around the corner.
Let us recall that the Japanese company announced it was working on the new Acura RDX Hybrid crossover back in January 2026 (and showed its first teaser). In May, parent company Honda Motor unveiled a new development strategy covering the next three years. One of the exhibits demonstrated then was an unnamed prototype of the new Acura hybrid crossover.
Presumably, the show car displayed last spring was intended to hint at the appearance of the fourth-generation Acura RDX, although the company did not confirm this. Nevertheless, the manufacturer is now preparing a concept for an imminent presentation that will show the further development of the design, including that of the next RDX. And judging by the teaser published today, the concept and the prototype will share common features at least in the rear-end styling.
The presentation of the announced concept, whose name the manufacturer has not disclosed, will take place next week as part of the annual Monterey Car Week event, which, as usual, is held in California. The company noted that the upcoming show car “marks a new era in Acura design.”
It is reported that the concept will demonstrate a new design language developed by Acura’s chief designer, Yasutake Tsuchida. The company emphasized that it “will influence future brand models, starting with the fourth-generation Acura RDX Hybrid crossover, which will arrive in the coming years.” A more specific debut date will be announced later.
Judging by the teaser published today, the concept will feature taillights that spread outward in the shape of a large split letter “X.” On the tailgate between the two sides of the “X” is a backlit brand name inscription. Unlike the prototype shown in May 2026, the new show car has additional light elements at the rear.
Details on the hybrid powertrain of the fourth-generation Acura RDX are not yet available, nor is there any data on the price of the future new model. It is worth noting that the current 2026 model year crossover, which is still in production, can be purchased on the American market for $45,100 (equivalent to approximately 3.71 million rubles at the current exchange rate), while the top-tier version costs at least $54,850 (about 4.51 million rubles).
