Flagship sedan BYD Dahan shown without camouflage
BYD’s new large four-door sedan will be available with hybrid or electric powertrains. The electric version features all-wheel drive. The new model will make its premiere next month.
This large sedan from the Dynasty lineup was first announced by BYD in early June – at that time, photos of a camouflaged test prototype were published. In the same month, the model appeared in the catalog of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Now the manufacturer has released several official full-fledged images. On the domestic market, the four-door will be called BYD Dahan (English version – Great Han). That is, the sedan will head the family, which currently includes two generations of the model. The very first BYD Han, recall, appeared in 2020, and was last modernized in 2024. A year later, the second-generation sedan launched in China, with the letter L added to its name as a suffix.
The exterior of the BYD Dahan is styled after previous sedans. However, the new flagship also has its own distinctive features. For instance, its hood extends onto the front fenders, and instead of flush door handles, it has semi-concealed ones. The lighting and bumpers are original. A two-tone body paint option is also available. Like the Han and Han L, the BYD Dahan sedan is equipped with an autopilot system with a lidar mounted above the windshield.
The new model is larger than previous four-doors. The BYD Dahan is 5256 mm long, 1999 mm wide, 1510 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3130 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the current “first” BYD Han are: 4995/1910/1495 mm, with a wheelbase of 2920 mm. The BYD Han L measures: 5050/1960/1505 mm, with a wheelbase of 2970 mm. The new sedan can be fitted with 20- or 21-inch wheels.
The interior has not yet been shown by the brand itself, but the sedan has already been caught by spy photographers, who managed to peek inside. The BYD Dahan features a sizable instrument display, an even larger multimedia tablet, and a separate screen for the front passenger. On the center tunnel, there is a wireless charging pad and covered cup holders. Transmission control is handled by a steering column stalk.
Like other BYD models, the Dahan sedan will be available as a plug-in hybrid or an electric vehicle. The first version, according to the certification, is equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine (156 hp) and a single 272-hp electric motor (presumably mounted on the front axle). According to preliminary data, the hybrid is fitted with a battery of approximately 54.5 kWh capacity.
The electric version will be offered with rear-wheel drive (503 hp) or dual-motor all-wheel drive (combined output – 775 hp). This version is reportedly equipped with a 102 kWh battery.
The full presentation of the BYD Dahan will take place in August at the Chengdu auto show. Even before the premiere, the manufacturer may share official images of the new model’s interior.
