Farewell Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ Final Edition hands over the baton to electric cars.
Mercedes-Benz is bidding farewell to its petrol-powered A-Class hot hatch, and unfortunately, it will not have a direct successor.
The Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ hot hatch debuted in 2019 alongside the related “performance” coupe-styled sedan Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+, with both models powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine M139 producing 421 hp. The only transmission option is an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic. Drive is all-wheel drive, with individual torque-vectoring clutches on the rear wheels. The hatchback sprints to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h.
The petrol-powered Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 S 4Matic+ sedan has already received a successor in the form of the electric Mercedes-AMG CLA 45, but the petrol hot hatch is still in service, though its days are numbered. Mercedes-Benz management has not allocated funds to adapt the M139 engine to upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards, so it’s time to say goodbye to the current Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ — today, the Final Edition version has been unveiled.
The Final Edition is an optional equipment package for the standard Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+, which currently starts at €62,840 in Germany. This package is customizable, so its price ranges from €6,075 to €10,091 depending on the chosen colors and contents.
Common features of the Final Edition package include 19-inch matte black wheels with white rims and yellow AMG logos near the hubs, black brake calipers with white AMG logos, a silver fuel filler cap, black gloss exterior trim combined with a matte gray or matte black body color, and an enlarged front splitter. Decorative vinyl decals and contrasting yellow inserts are available at an additional cost.
The interior of the Final Edition is upholstered in black Artico artificial leather combined with Microcut microfiber and contrasting yellow stitching. The front seat headrests feature 45 S logos, and the center tunnel bears a commemorative 45 S Final Edition plaque. AMG lettering on the door sills and 45 S on the floor mats are finished in yellow.
Meanwhile, the regular A-Class hatchback of the current W177 generation will continue to be produced at Mercedes-Benz’s Hungarian plant until 2028, after which it will be replaced by a fundamentally new entry-level model on the MMA platform — rumored to be something like a crossover-van. As for the junior sports car from Mercedes-AMG, after the retirement of the petrol hot hatch, it will be the aforementioned electric sedan Mercedes-AMG CLA 45.
