GAC’s Aion Ray 7 Sedan to Be the First Model of the New Family

The Aion brand has announced a new series aimed at a younger audience. The first model of the family will be a fairly large sedan with striking looks. The four-door will definitely be electrified.
The Aion brand is currently celebrating its birthday. The company owning the brand, called GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., was founded on July 28 specifically for producing electric cars. The firm then transformed into simply GAC Aion, and its lineup was expanded with hybrids. By the way, the Aion brand itself claims on Chinese social media that it has turned 10 years old, although the local consumer website indicates that GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd. was founded in 2017. Be that as it may, the announcement of the brand’s new lineup – Ray (hello, Kia!) – is timed to this event. The series is created mainly for young people, and its firstborn will be the Ray 7 sedan shown in the teasers.

The exterior of the Aion Ray 7 is done in a new style for the brand, which was already tried on by the Aion N60 crossover van that launched in spring. The main design feature is the twin LED strips of daytime running lights placed in a single panel, and the rear lights styled in the same vein. The Aion Ray 7 sedan also got semi-hidden door handles, a “broken” beltline, and yellow brake calipers. There are “slits” in the bumpers. In addition, an advanced autopilot with a lidar above the windshield is provided.

Of the dimensions, only the length has been announced so far, and even that is approximate – around 5 meters. The interior has not been shown yet either. Although it is already clear that inside there will be a virtual instrument cluster and a large multimedia system tablet.

Of course, the Ray 7 is electrified, but data on the tech, again, is not yet available. Aion only noted that the battery supplier is CATL.
Likely, the Aion Ray 7 sedan will hit the domestic market before the end of the current year. That is, more details should be revealed in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the GAC sub-brand is also represented in Russia. We sell the electric crossover Aion V.
