The full-size Ram 2500 pickup has increased its payload capacity.
The American manufacturer has revealed the updates coming to the 2027 model year truck. The vehicles will reach dealers in the US next month.
Ram, the American brand within automotive giant Stellantis’s portfolio, introduced the fifth-generation full-size 2500 Heavy Duty (HD) truck in 2019. As a reminder, the model underwent its planned facelift in early 2025: not only was the front-end styling adjusted and the wheel design changed, but the mechanicals were also modernized. Now the brand has announced updates for the 2027 model year pickup.
The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is now offered with the same upgraded 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel, whose maximum output now stands at 436 hp and peak torque at 1,456 Nm. It works in conjunction with the eight-speed TorqueFlite HD hydromechanical automatic from ZF. The price of this variant on the American market will be $88,470, which is equivalent to approximately 6.97 million rubles at the current exchange rate.
Also joining the lineup is the Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV), under whose hood sits a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V8 Hemi gasoline engine producing 411 hp and a maximum torque of 582 Nm. It comes paired with the 8-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic. It takes 8.4 seconds to accelerate from a standstill to nearly 60 mph (96.6 km/h), and its top speed is 166 km/h.
Now, most versions of the Ram 2500 equipped with the V8 Hemi engine have access to a new optional Payload Upgrade package. It has allowed the truck’s gross vehicle weight rating to be increased from 10,000 to 11,040 pounds (that is, from 4,536 to 5,008 kg), so, as the company noted, this modification now boasts the best-in-class payload capacity of 4,580 pounds (2,077 kg). The package costs $835 (about 65.8 thousand rubles).
Also on the list of updates for the Ram 2500 is a limited-slip rear differential, which has become a standalone option for the Tradesman, while the top-tier Laramie trim gets different body-color fender flares, as well as an extended version of RamBox (the brand’s proprietary storage system with waterproof compartments integrated into the pickup’s cargo bed).
Trucks with the V8 Hemi engine received special badges on the front fenders, and the model’s body color palette has been expanded with two new shades – Serrano Green Metallic and Tank Clear-Coat. Additionally, the Ram 2500 Rebel and Power Wagon now offer an optional sport hood and an electric Warn winch (outside the separate Level 1 package).
Production of the Ram heavyweights remains, as before, established at the company’s plant located in Saltillo, Mexico. The refreshed full-size pickups will reach dealers in the US in August of this year.
As became known last spring, over the next five years Ram intends to go beyond being a purely commercial brand: its model lineup in North America should become broader and more diverse. One of the new additions will be an SUV, which they decided to give the name Ramcharger, already familiar to the brand’s fans.
