Restyled Suzuki XL7 crossover van: a more solid look and old tech
The seven-seat Suzuki van with an off-road image has had its exterior refined and equipment improved. The mechanicals remain unchanged.
Once upon a time, the XL7 index was carried by the three-row variant of the Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV, then it was inherited by a Suzuki crossover whose closest relative was the first-generation Chevrolet Equinox. And since 2020, in Southeast Asian and Latin American countries, a seven-seat soft-roader has been sold under the name Suzuki XL7. More precisely, the brand itself classifies the model in the SUV segment, but in reality it is a cross version of the Suzuki Ertiga compact van, albeit with original design. The Suzuki XL7 cross-van has already been modernized once. Now it has been refined again – the public premiere of the facelifted model was held in Indonesia as part of the auto show that opened today.
The Suzuki XL7 has gained a different front bumper with a massive black “bar” in the middle and vertical “slits” on the sides. The fog lights are also new, LED units. The grille has also been replaced; it can be fully black or with chrome “fins”. The rear lights have been tinted, plus a shark-fin antenna has appeared on the roof. Finally, the design of the 16-inch wheels has been changed. As a result, after the facelift, the van looks more solid.
In the seven-seat cabin, the upholstery materials have been refreshed, and the 8-inch multimedia tablet has been replaced by a 9-inch one (multimedia now comes as standard). The “basic” versions still have a rear-view camera, while the top-spec Suzuki XL7 cross-van gets surround-view cameras. In addition, the most expensive trim has received a factory dashcam and a tire pressure monitoring system.
The mechanicals were not touched by the update. In Indonesia, the base Suzuki XL7 Zeta cross-van is available with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 105 hp, paired with a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. In the Beta and Alpha versions, the model additionally has a starter-generator, and such trims are considered hybrids by the manufacturer. The Suzuki XL7 Beta Hybrid is also offered with a manual or automatic, while the Suzuki XL7 Alpha Hybrid comes only with the 4AT. Drive is front-wheel only in any case.
The facelifted Suzuki XL7 cross-van is priced at 274.3 million – 329.7 million local rupiah, which is equivalent to roughly 1.2 million – 1.4 million rubles at the current exchange rate. Later, the updated model will appear in other countries as well. By the way, in India the cross-van is presented with a six-seat cabin, so there it is called the Suzuki XL6.
