Changan’s Deepal S05 Crossover, Coming to Russia, Gets Updated in China

Deepal’s crossover has received a slight exterior design update, with new features inside as well. An improved driver assistance suite has been added to expensive trim levels. The powertrain remains unchanged.

Deepal added the S05 crossover to its lineup in 2024, making it the most affordable SUV from the brand owned by Changan. Overall, the model proved successful, leading the brand’s sales ranking in its home market. Nevertheless, Deepal decided to refresh its bestseller.

Today, preliminary prices for the updated crossover were announced in China, and order books have been opened. Notably, only the electric version of the updated Deepal S05 is currently available for order, whereas the pre-facelift crossover also has a hybrid version. Whether the facelifted crossover will get a hybrid variant remains unknown for now.

The Deepal S05’s exterior has been refined. The LED internals in the upper daytime running light sections have been replaced, a chrome strip now spans the full width of the front bumper, and the rear bumper has also been redesigned. The frameless doors now feature semi-concealed handles instead of flush ones. New 18-inch wheels with a fresh design have also been added.

Finally, in expensive trim levels, the Deepal S05 now boasts a more advanced autopilot: the suite includes a lidar above the windshield, with blue lighting in the headlights signaling its operation.

The dimensions of the China-bound model remain unchanged. The Deepal S05 measures 4620 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, 1600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2880 mm.

Inside, a different front panel has been installed, along with a proper glovebox and mechanical handles instead of buttons. In “basic” trims, the Deepal S05 retains the 15.4-inch multimedia tablet, while richer versions now feature a 15.6-inch screen. “Luxury” trims also include heated and ventilated front seats (the driver’s seat additionally has a massager, while it’s an option for the passenger seat).

The electric car’s powertrain remains unchanged. In China, the “green” Deepal S05 is offered with a single 272-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle. Simpler versions are equipped with a 56.12 kWh battery, offering a range of 520 km on the CLTC cycle. More expensive variants have a 68.82 kWh battery, providing 620 km of range.

The updated Deepal S05 electric crossover is preliminarily priced at 119,900 – 151,900 yuan, equivalent to approximately 1.4 million – 1.8 million rubles at the current exchange rate.

Recall that Changan’s sub-brand is also present in Russia. The rugged Deepal G318 crossover and the Deepal S07 crossover are already on sale here. The smaller Deepal S05 has also been promised to the Russian market: Russia will get the electric version with the previous design, but it will feature all-wheel drive.
