Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 prepares for debut: first technical details revealed

According to data from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the upcoming new model, intended for the Chinese market, will share its technology with the platform-mate crossover ID.Unyx 08.

The German conglomerate is facing another rough patch: management continues to develop a strategy to overcome the current crisis. Nevertheless, the manufacturer apparently does not plan to cancel a number of already announced premieres. Recently, information emerged about the upcoming Volkswagen ID.Aura T6 crossover, and now the first technical details of the large sedan ID. Unyx 09 have become known.

The upcoming model will be intended for the Chinese market. As a reminder, a prototype with production-ready styling was presented in April 2026 at a special event held on the eve of the Beijing Auto Show. Volkswagen Anhui (implemented under the VW and JAC partnership) is responsible for the development and production of the full-size four-door Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09.

Now, the model shown last spring has appeared in the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology – with “live” photos and initial technical data. The overall length of the ID. Unyx 09 is 5081 mm (228 mm longer than the ID. Unyx 07 liftback), width is 1980 mm (128 mm wider), height is 1509 / 1526 mm depending on the version (40-57 mm lower), and the wheelbase is 3030 mm (204 mm longer). Curb weight is 2207 / 2307 kg.

As Kolesa.ru previously reported, the sedan is based on the CEA platform with an 800-volt architecture (developed jointly with Xpeng). This platform connects the new model with the VW ID. Unyx 08 crossover, which entered the Chinese market at the end of March 2026. Apparently, the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 will share its technology with it as well. At least, the data from the Chinese database confirms this.

Thus, the ID. Unyx 09 will be offered to Chinese customers with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. In the first case, the sedan is equipped with a single electric motor with a power output of 313 hp. In the second case, the model is equipped with a dual-motor powertrain, with an additional 190-hp electric motor mounted on the front axle, and a combined output of 503 hp. The top speed, regardless of the configuration, is limited to 200 km/h.

It is known that the sedan will receive lithium iron phosphate traction batteries from CATL, but their capacity, as well as the range, have not yet been disclosed. Note that the related VW ID. Unyx 08 is equipped with batteries of 82 and 95 kWh, and the maximum range without recharging for the SUV varies from 630 to 730 km (calculated according to the CLTC cycle used in China).

Features of the exterior include: a “shark nose,” diverging semi-circular stampings on the hood, two-tier headlights where the upper part contains matrix sections of daytime running lights, and below – horizontally elongated main headlight blocks visually merging with elements on the side panels. The narrow, separate rear lights maintain a design similar to the DRLs. The model also features a panoramic roof, semi-flush door handles, and 20- and 21-inch wheel rims.

The full premiere and start of sales of the Volkswagen ID. Unyx 09 in China are scheduled for the second half of 2026.
