Jetta lineup to be expanded with new M6 sedan: first details
The four-door model from the FAW and Volkswagen joint venture brand will feature a fully electric powertrain.
Today, the name Jetta refers not only to the global sedan of the German brand Volkswagen but also to a separate budget brand under which models are produced primarily for the Chinese market. Production of these cars is established in China at the facilities of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. A new model is currently preparing for its premiere – the fully electric sedan Jetta M6.
Live images of the model without camouflage have appeared in the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Based on these, the new model will feature a design that noticeably differs from both the current VA3 and VA7 sedans and the Jetta X concept presented in April 2026. However, the design cannot be called truly original: as Chinese netizens and foreign media have rightly noted, the front end strongly resembles the current Tesla Model 3 sedan.
The Jetta M6 features a sloping hood with stampings, narrow, angular headlights, and a small trapezoidal air intake integrated into the lower part of the front bumper, along with a pair of vertical air ducts on the sides. The model includes black plastic inserts on the side panels and the lower part of the rear bumper (with narrow horizontal reflectors built into the element).
The four-door model also comes with traditional exterior mirrors, semi-hidden door handles, a chrome strip running along the lower part of the side windows, two roof design options, and a full-width light bar extending from one rear fender to the other across the entire width of the trunk lid. The Jetta M6 will be offered with three sets of wheel rims to choose from, in sizes 17 and 18 inches.
The overall length of the new sedan is 4806 mm, width is 1868 mm, height is 1500 mm, and the wheelbase is 2820 mm. For comparison, the dimensions of the current Jetta VA7 four-door model are 4773 x 1789 x 1469 mm, with a wheelbase of 2731 mm. And speaking of that, the dimensions of the Tesla Model 3 are 4720 x 1850 x 1440 mm, with a wheelbase of 2875 mm.
According to data from the database of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Jetta M6 will feature two variants of the fully electric powertrain. In both cases, it is a single electric motor, so all-wheel drive for this model appears not to be available. The maximum output of the “lower” motor is 154 hp, while the “higher” one delivers 197 hp. Information about the traction battery capacity and range on a single charge is not yet available.
As a reminder, in April 2026, the Volkswagen Group outlined its plans for China: it was expected that more than 20 electrified models would appear in the country this year, and by 2030, that number is planned to increase to 50. Of these, four new models will be under the Jetta brand by 2028. One of the upcoming models will be a crossover based on the aforementioned Jetta X concept. The production version is expected to go on sale in China before the end of this year.
