The striking MG 07 liftback will be offered with several powertrain options

The MG brand is preparing to launch a new five-door model with the index 07. The model will be available with hybrid or fully electric powertrains. It is also promised to have quite rich equipment.
The exterior of the MG 07 model was revealed in official images in May of this year, and in the same month, a certification for the new model appeared in the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Recently, the brand, which is now part of the SAIC Group, unveiled the interior of the fresh “seven” and presented it to Chinese journalists. Finally, the model has gained its own page on the brand’s local consumer website. Additionally, the start date for order acceptance has been announced – July 29.

As expected, the MG 07 is a liftback, although the Chinese call it a sedan. Moreover, in the brand’s lineup, this is already the second five-door with a “seven” in its name. For instance, since 2023, a purely gasoline liftback MG 7 has been sold in China. The new model is electrified.

The MG 07 is based on SAIC’s “next-generation NEV platform.” The length of the new “seven” is 4886 mm, width – 1900 mm, height – 1478 mm, and wheelbase – 2825 mm. Thus, the MG 07 is only 2 mm longer than the previous MG 7 liftback, but the latter significantly lags behind the new model in terms of wheelbase (2778 mm). The trunk volume of the new five-door is 697 liters (including the underfloor storage) compared to 375 liters for the old “seven.”

The fresh liftback has a striking appearance. The MG 07 features C-shaped headlights, a full-width taillight, frameless doors with semi-hidden handles, and a glass roof. The lower part of the front bumper has active shutters, and the trunk lid has a rising spoiler. The new model is offered with 18- or 19-inch wheels. Additionally, there is an autopilot system from Momenta with a lidar above the windshield.

Inside the cabin, in front of the driver, there is an 8.88-inch instrument screen, and a 15.6-inch multimedia system tablet is mounted in the center. The multimedia system is based on artificial intelligence.

The MG 07 also features a three-spoke steering wheel and a two-tier central tunnel, with a wireless charging pad, a row of physical buttons, and uncovered cup holders on the upper part. A steering column stalk controls the transmission. A pull-out table with a mirror is provided for the front passenger. The equipment list also includes heated, ventilated, and massaging seats, and a 21-speaker audio system. A refrigerator can be built into the trunk compartment.

The new liftback will be available with hybrid or fully electric powertrains. However, the brand itself is currently promoting the “electric car.” This MG 07 is expected to be offered in two modifications, both rear-wheel drive. The base electric car, according to preliminary data, features a 400-volt architecture and a 239-horsepower motor. The more expensive “electric car” has an 800-volt system and a 320-horsepower motor. Incidentally, the electric version has an additional 168-liter front trunk under the hood. As for the hybrid, it is known that its powertrain includes a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine (112 hp) and a 207-horsepower electric motor.

More details about the MG 07 liftback are expected to appear next week. Meanwhile, the brand is also preparing new hatchback and crossover models for Europe: these models have so far been presented as concepts.
