Second-generation Volkswagen Atlas crossover gets a price tag
A new SUV from a German brand, designed for the American market, has become noticeably more expensive with the recent generational change.
Volkswagen introduced its crossover called the Atlas, based on the modular MQB platform, in 2016. After a series of teasers and official “spy” shots of camouflaged prototypes, the company fully unveiled the second-generation Atlas last spring. As a reminder, the model received the exterior and interior from its Chinese “twin” Teramont, as well as an upgraded “inner workings.” Now, the American office has published the price list for the new model.
“Live” sales of the next Volkswagen Atlas will begin in the American market in the fall of 2026. As it turns out, the crossover has become significantly more expensive with the generational change. For the starting trim in the US, they are now asking at least $41,610 (equivalent to approximately 3.26 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and the delivery fee has increased to $1,525, so the total increase amounts to $2,350 (about 184,000 rubles).
For this money, the VW Atlas comes with richer equipment: for instance, the base SE variant gets 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, keyless entry, a power tailgate, and a parking assistant. The interior is trimmed in artificial leather, features wood inserts, a heated steering wheel wrapped in genuine leather, and the front seats are equipped with heating and ventilation.
Even the base version of the model comes with a 10.25-inch virtual instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. The second-generation Volkswagen Atlas also features three-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad for two smartphones, and a nine-speaker audio system.
Next up is the SE w/Technology variant, priced at $45,610 (about 3.57 million rubles) excluding delivery costs. This VW Atlas comes with 20-inch wheels, remote start functionality, illuminated door handle areas, and glowing brand logos on the front and rear. The car is also equipped with a tow hitch, allowing it to tow a trailer weighing up to 2,268 kg. It gets a 15-inch multimedia touchscreen and an interior mirror with HomeLink functionality.
For the Volkswagen Atlas SEL R-Line in the US, they are asking at least $52,110 (about 4.08 million rubles). This model features a darkened grille, sport bumpers, body-colored side sills, R-Line wheels, and silver roof rails. The equipment list includes: heated windshield washer nozzles, a panoramic sunroof, unique interior ambient lighting, leather seat upholstery, and heating and ventilation functions for the second-row seats.
The price of the top-tier variant, the SEL Premium R-Line, is $56,610 (about 4.44 million rubles). It comes with 21-inch wheels, power-folding exterior mirrors with brand logo projectors, special interior trim, massage function in the front seats, and a Harman Kardon audio system with 14 speakers and a subwoofer.
All trims are powered under the hood by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the EA888 series, with a maximum output of 286 hp and a torque of 350 Nm. This engine is paired with a classic eight-speed automatic transmission, with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Production of the new model is set up at the plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
