New Audi A2 e-tron 2027
Recently, fresh photos and videos have been published online, capturing prototypes of a new German hatchback with a relatively small amount of camouflage. Thanks to them, we have the opportunity to form a more accurate impression of the appearance of the upcoming new model.
The Audi A2 model was first introduced in 1997 as a concept, and the production version went into assembly at the end of 1999. One of the car’s main features was its fully aluminum body. The five-door hatchback remained in production until 2005. Over six years, more than 176,000 units were produced. The model did not receive a direct successor, although the Audi A2 Concept was presented in 2011, which had virtually nothing in common with the first generation. It never went into production, but soon the hatchback will be revived—and it will have much more external similarity to the original.
First and foremost, associations with the first generation are evoked by the characteristic shape of the roof and side glazing. Another striking detail is the dual glass of the tailgate, divided by a spoiler. The front end design will be original, with familiar elements here being only the upper “eyebrows” of the daytime running lights, similar to the A6 e-tron and some other models of the brand. The main headlight units are unusually small and, in all likelihood, will be integrated into a contrasting black insert on the front bumper. The door handles are positioned on the beltline, like on the latest generation BMW X5 crossover. At the rear, one can note horizontally elongated angular taillights and a massive black insert in the lower part of the bumper, which will house the license plate recess. Additionally, the car is depicted with new design alloy wheels.
The new Audi A2 will be an electric vehicle (hence it will receive the traditional e-tron suffix for such models) and will be built on the MEB+ platform. The Volkswagen ID.3 Neo hatchback, which is the closest relative of the revived A2, is also built on this platform. It may also borrow the electric motor, which is offered on the Volkswagen in three variants: with 170, 190, and 231 hp, with a claimed range on a single charge for the top version of 630 km (WLTP cycle). The motor is located on the rear axle (accordingly, the hatchback will be rear-wheel drive), so there is a possibility that the A2 will not receive the quattro all-wheel drive transmission.
The premiere of the new Audi A2 is expected this coming autumn. Meanwhile, exactly one month ago, the once again updated Audi A3 family was showcased.
